## Service and stewardship

Alhaji Saka Tinubu became the Movement’s third President following the death of Adam Idowu Yakub. He served from 1930 until his death on 10 October 1940.

A wealthy Muslim benefactor, he committed his resources to the propagation of Islam and the growth of the Movement. His presidency is particularly remembered for maintaining unity during a difficult period in its history.

### Support for the Movement

Before the litigation involving the Quranic Group, his residence at 51 Kakawa Street, Lagos, served as the Movement’s headquarters and secretariat. Meetings of the Executive Council were held there.

When legal costs of £720 were awarded against the Movement in the case involving the Quranic Group, Saka Tinubu paid the sum. Although he described the payment as a loan, the supplied account records that he did not recover the money from the Movement.

### Constitutional leadership

Following the adoption of the Constitution on Tuesday, 31 July 1934, Saka Tinubu was elected a Trustee alongside Jibril Martin and M. B. Adeniji Adele.

His financial support, commitment to the organisation and efforts to preserve its cohesion helped sustain the Movement throughout his presidency.
